About Tarek Waked, MD

Tarek Waked, MD, FACS, FASMBS, is a bariatric surgeon specializing in minimally invasive weight loss procedures. Dr. Waked welcomes patients at his private practice, Waked MD, located in Georgetown, Delaware. He performs more than 400 bariatric procedures a year, including sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, revision surgery, and biliary-pancreatic diversion with duodenal switch. 

Dr. Waked received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the American University of Beirut in Beirut, Lebanon. He received his medical degree from the same university, graduating with honors before relocating to the United States for ongoing medical training.

After completing a general surgery residency at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Virginia, he finished fellowship training in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery at the renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Dr. Waked has been honored to present original research at several professional meetings and has published research in peer-reviewed journals. He served as a bariatric and minimally invasive surgeon at Delmarva Bariatric Center in Salisbury, Maryland, and was the Director of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery at TidalHealth Nanticoke (previously Nanticoke Memorial Hospital) in Seaford, Delaware.

In addition to maintaining active membership in the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Waked holds an American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) fellowship and has certifications in Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Surgery (FLS), advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), and advanced trauma life support (ATLS).

Dr. Waked is fluent in English, Spanish, and Arabic.
